Independent developer Motiga's recently announced free-to-play PC game Gigantic may be reminiscent of a MOBA game, but the studio has described it as otherwise. To gain a better insight into how this new IP differentiates itself from MOBAs, we spoke to James Phinney, vice president of product development at Motiga. Prior to working on Gigantic, Phinney was the lead designer on Guild Wars and StarCraft.
This is an immediate concern upon reaching some of the higher levels. The strongest enemies in the beta take clip after clip to take down. From what we played, the stronger the enemies get, the more they act as bullet sponges, soaking up sometimes hundreds of shots before they succumb.
The most obvious example of this occurs during the Devil's Lair Strike Mission, which is recommendced for Guardians level 6 or higher. You begin by fighting through rooms full of enemies, some of which have ranks well above the beta's level 8 cap. You then come across a wide field with a Devil Walker spider tank in it. Of course, there are weaker enemies, but the tank is the main focus. It wields a rocket launcher and what appears to be a rail gun to devastating effect. Expectedly, it's well-armored. But perhaps too much so.
Sony will talk about how to best use “next-gen” game engines with its PlayStation 4 virtual reality device Project Morpheus at GDC Europe, the event’s organizers have confirmed.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s Research and Development Senior Engineer Patrick Conner and Immersive Technology Group Technical Director Ian Bickerstaff will discuss the topic in a Programming Track session titled “Virtual Reality and Getting the best from Your Next-Gen Engine.”
“Creating a game engine requires knowledge of the hardware and software of your target system,” reads the session’s description. “Nowhere is this more important than with Virtual Reality where a consistent high frame rate and low-latency are essential to the experience.” The presentation will introduce techniques to deliver a high quality virtual reality experience with a focus on Sony’s Project Morpheus. The session will presumably give attendees an understanding of Project Morpheus’ features and technical considerations on how to develop games for it.
Project Morpheus was announced at GDC 2014. Sony has ruled out a 2014 launch for the headset, and has promised that it won't sell for $1000.

Several backers of a Kickstarter project called Confederate Express are trying to get their pledges refunded after the game’s developer was accused of squatting an Airbnb condominium in Palm Springs, California.
Airbnb is a website where people search for or offer a temporary place to stay for a price.
According to KESQ.com, several neighbors identified the squatter as Maksym Pashanin, who’s living and developing Confederate Express with his brother Denys under the company name Kilobite.
Confederate Express was pitched as a PC strategy-oriented tactical RPG. It was succesfully funded on November 20, 2013, surpassing it’s goal of $10,000 with nearly $40,000 from 2,386 backers. Since then, Pashanin produced only a tech demo for the game. In a July 16 update to backers, Pashanin revealed that Kilobite has been working on a “sister project,” a brawler with RPG elements called Knuckle Club, and that due to “recent restructuring of Kilobite,” development of Confederate Express was postponed.
